After Amazon reported its quarterly earnings yesterday, Synergy Research Group updated its analysis of the cloud computing market. In its report, Amazon said its Amazon Web Services group generated $4.1 billion in revenue for the quarter, 42 percent higher than during the year previous. Synergy says those figures resulted in a 1 percent market share gain for the cloud leader. Microsoft grew its slice of the pie by 3 percent, and Google saw 1 percent gains. IBM’s market share remained flat, while the smaller players saw declines.
“While Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform are doubling in size, IBM continues to dominate in hosted private cloud, and AWS is still over three times the size of its nearest competitor,” noted Synergy Chief Analyst John Dinsdale.
