Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced that it is dropping its prices for two of its cloud computing services. Beginning March 1, Simple Queue Service (SQS) will cost $0.50 per million API requests, a 50 percent price decrease. The Simple Notification Service (SNS) will also now cost $0.50 per million API requests, a 17 percent price decrease. In addition, the first 1 million API requests for both services will be free; in the past, only the first 100,000 requests were free.
Industry watchers note that AWS continues to drop prices as competition in the cloud computing space heats up. Google Compute Engine and Microsoft Azure have also recently lowered some of their prices.
