At its 2016 Re:Invent conference, Amazon Web Services (AWS) talked up its partner program. It announced new initiatives related to VMware, the Amazon Echo device and the Internet of Things. The company is also expanding its tools to help partners develop competencies with its cloud computing service.
Interestingly, the company also made an appeal (and possibly a veiled threat) for partners to stop supporting multiple cloud computing providers. “I’m not suggesting to dump partners, but a strategy of hedging your cloud strategy is just wrong for this time,” said AWS CEO Andy Jassy. “Those committed to understanding the details of the AWS platform will help our joint customers the most and will have the most success in the coming years.”
