Gartner has updated its Magic Quadrant report for infrastructure as a service (IaaS). In the latest ranking, only Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure made the leaders quadrant, while Gartner positioned third-place Google very close to the leaders quadrant in the visionaries quadrant. Alaibaba Cloud, IBM and Oracle also ranked as leaders. The rest of the pack — Virtustream, Rackspace, CentruyLink, Interoute, Fujitsu, Skytap, Joyent and NTT Communications — all clustered in the niche players section.
The most surprising finding in the report may be the positioning of Alibaba Cloud, which appears to be ranked around fourth. Gartner said the cloud computing provider has a lot of future potential for global enterprises with operations in China.
