Autodesk Moves to Subscription Pricing

One of the oldest development firms that was still selling software the traditional way is moving to subscriptions and cloud-based options. Autodesk, known for its 3D design tools, has announced that it is adopting a subscription-based pricing model.

Unlike many other firms with subscription-based pricing, Autodesk isn’t going all-in on cloud computing. Scott Reese, VP of cloud products at Autodesk, explained, “We don’t see a time where [our] desktop applications go away. Much more what we see is that they become cloud connected, cloud aware and cloud-centric.”

In related news, last week Autodesk laid off 10 percent of its workforce, which was about 925 people.
