Apple has announced new rules that prevent iOS developers from selling data collected with its HealthKit platform to ad companies. Specifically, Apple says its mobile development firms “must not sell an end-user’s health information collected through the HealthKit APIs to advertising platforms, data brokers or information resellers.” However, it does allow data to be shared with research projects if the users give permission.
Announced in June, HealthKit can collect data on a user’s blood pressure, heart rate, diet and exercise. Many industry observers expect Apple to soon introduce wearable technology. The company plans to hold a media event on September 9 where it could announce such a device.
