Apple Continues to Fight for the App Store Name

Although it hasn’t yet been granted a trademark on the name “App Store,” Apple is continuing to pursue legal recourse against Amazon over the use of the name “Amazon Appstore for Android.” In March, Apple filed a lawsuit against Amazon. This week, it filed additional papers requesting that Amazon present evidence explaining why it has dropped the words “for Android” from much of its marketing. Apple claims that dropping those words from the name of the service means that the term “Appstore” is not generic.

Earlier this week, a report in the Wall Street Journal suggested that Apple believes Amazon is a bigger threat to its app business than Google is.
