For the first time, Google’s most recent version of Android, codenamed KitKat, has surpassed the usage of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. KitKat now runs on 13.6 percent of Android devices, compared to 12.3 percent for Ice Cream Sandwich. The most popular version of the mobile operating system remains Android 4.1-4.3 Jelly Bean, with 58.4 percent of Android devices. The much older Android 2.3 Gingerbread is the second most popular at 14.9 percent.
This week, Google plans to begin rolling out the 4.4.3 update to KitKat. Nexus, Motorola, and Google Play Edition devices will be the first to receive the upgrade.
