Android JavaScript Performance Blows Away iOS4

Android 2.2 came in three times faster than the iPhone 4 in terms of JavaScript performance, according to tests performed by Ars Technica.

The open source Android 2.2 mobile operating system, codenamed Froyo, introduced a high-performance JIT compiler with the Dalvik runtime environment, and the browser performance went through the roof.

“SunSpider and V8 benchmarks show that JavaScript execution in Froyo’s Web browser is almost three times faster than in the previous version of the platform,” Ryan Paul reported.

And when Ars Technica compared the results with the iPhone 4, Android was significantly faster, “scoring over three times better on V8 and almost twice as fast on SunSpider,” Paul said.
