Analysts from ABI Research are forecasting that 2013 revenue earned from Android apps will be about double 2012’s figures. And they believe Android will increase its market share of app revenues to 65.9 percent, up from 59.1 percent last year.
While many mobile development firms are still drawn to the iOS platform because of the high earnings available, ABI Research says the sheer volume of Android users is allowing Google to catch up. “Apple’s iOS still leads all the other mobile operating systems’ revenues by a significant margin; however, the greater number of Android smartphones in use is clawing back Apple’s lead in this market,” said ABI Research analyst Josh Flood. “This year, Android smartphones will ship by a factor of more than three-to-one to iPhones.”
