Amazon Will Refund More Than $70 Million in Kids’ In-App Purchases

Amazon and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have reached an agreement to drop their appeals in a lawsuit related to in-app purchases on mobile apps. The FTC sued Amazon over complaints from parents who said the Amazon Appstore for Android made it too easy for their children to run up big bills from in-app purchases. A court found in the FTC’s favor, and both parties filed appeals. Now Amazon has agreed to provide refunds to those affected, which includes customers who made in-app purchases between 2011 and 2016. The total could exceed $70 million.

The FTC previously settled similar cases with Apple and Google, which resulted in more than $51 million in refunds.
