Amazon has launched a new program aimed at enticing the mobile development industry to write apps for its recently announced Fire Phone. It will give away up to $15,000 in Amazon Coins ($5,000 per app for up to three apps) that developers can give to users. Amazon Coins are Amazon’s currency that customers can use to purchase apps, games, and in-app items. To qualify for the promotion, apps have to use features unique to the Fire Phone, such as Dynamic Perspective. Developers must also submit an app widget, and non-games must use Foundation Controls.
The Fire Phone will begin shipping to consumers July 25. Developers who want their apps to be available at the time of release should submit them to the Amazon Appstore before July 18.
Analysts predict Amazon will sell 2-3 million Fire Phones this year.
