Amazon has taken the wraps off a new advertising platform that will allow mobile development firms to promote their apps on Android tablets and smartphones, including Amazon tablets. “We work with many developers to support merchandising and advertising across our platforms and devices,” said Lyn Hart, an Amazon spokesperson. “We realized that many more developers would benefit from this advertising and merchandising.”
Developers will pay Amazon based on the clicks their ads receive. Pricing for ad campaigns starts at $100.
Industry analysts note that this move should give Amazon a bigger stake in the mobile ad industry, where it is currently a minor player. It may also encourage more people in the mobile development industry to tailor their apps for Amazon devices.
