Among the many announcements that Amazon made at its re:Invent conference, the cloud computing vendor unveiled a browser-based IDE called AWS Cloud9. Amazon acquired Cloud9 last year, and the new cloud development tool is based on technology created by the startup.
AWS says that this is the first “cloud-native” IDE, although other companies have also claimed that title. It supports JavaScript, Python, PHP and some other programming languages, and its key features include collaborative editing, pre-installed debugging tools and deep integration with Amazon’s cloud computing environment, including Lambda serverless computing.
