During its re:Invent conference in Las Vegas, Amazon announced a new mobile development service that it calls AppStream. It allows developers to tap into Amazon’s powerful G2 GPU instances and stream the applications running there to mobile devices. “What it allows you to do is … build whatever the application is that you want to stream,” explained Amazon’s Andy Jassy. “You stream it from the cloud, … and it appears to the end user like it’s streaming from their local device. The quality is that high.”

AppStream is currently in a limited preview release.

At the same event, Amazon also unveiled a new API-monitoring service and a virtual desktop service.
