ABI Research has published a new report that forecasts mobile app downloads for the coming year. It predicts that Android will account for 58 percent of smartphone app downloads, while iOS will get 33 percent. However, on the tablet side, it believes the iPad will get 75 percent of the market with Android cornering a measly 17 percent.

More controversially, the report also predicts that Android will become the mobile development industry’s first choice platform due to “its vast installed base and the generally improved conditions for app building.” However, many critics disagree, pointing out that users will pay more for iOS apps, making it a more lucrative platform for developers.
