Along with its announcement that the popular apps Instagram and Waze are now available for Windows Phone, Microsoft released some statistics about its mobile platform. It said Windows Phone sees 10 million app transactions per day, or 300 million per month, up from 9 million per day in September. App downloads have grown 290 percent over the past year, and now top 3 billion over the life of the platform. That shows strong growth, but it’s still a far cry from iOS’s 60 billion total downloads.
The mobile development platform does appear to be making inroads with developers. Microsoft said they are adding 500 new Windows Phone applications every day.
