PaperThin, Inc. announced the release of CommonSpot Content Server 2.5. This newly enhanced ColdFusion based content management application enables organizations to distribute their Web publishing efforts directly to content owners. CommonSpot Content Server 2.5 allows organizations with limited Web development resources to efficiently develop and maintain corporate Internets, intranets or extranets, by shifting responsibility for Web publishing to the business stakeholders, and away from overburdened Web developers.
“Most small to mid sized organizations recognize the benefits a content management system offers, but can’t afford the steep product and implementation costs – both in terms of dollars and time,” says PaperThin founder Todd Peters. “CommonSpot Content Server 2.5 offers a complete content management framework, providing all of the core components of more expensive systems at a fraction of the price, and an implementation time frame that can be measured in weeks, not months. We have found that this provides tremendous value to our customers and will continue to set us a part in the market place.”
According to Steve Drucker, CEO of Washington, D.C. based Web design anddevelopment firm Fig Leaf Software, a PaperThin partner, “CommonSpot is a100% ColdFusion based content management system that I believe representsunprecedented value for our clientele. In fact, not since my initialevaluation of the ColdFusion Server itself have I been so impressed by asite development tool.” Drucker also noted, “I found the value propositionoffered by CommonSpot to be so compelling, in fact, that it now forms thebackbone of Fig Leaf Software’s corporate intranet and client extranet.”
CommonSpot Content Server 2.5 provides a robust out-of-the-box framework, including over 25 new features. There is no client software to install, andno complex scripting or programming skills required. CommonSpot’s flexibletemplate and data-driven architecture, granular access controls and amulti-level approval workflow process give administrators and developerscontrol over the integrity and structure of the site, while greatlysimplifying overall content management. Also, developers recognize thebenefits of CommonSpot’s open and extensible architecture, enabling them tocode and seamlessly integrate custom ColdFusion, Web, e-commerce and otherapplications.
A few of the new customer-driven features and enhancements in this releaseinclude an ASP/hosting solution, increased security functions, a multi-levelapproval workflow process, and multi-language support. An extensive metadata(information about information) layer was also added, along with the abilityto more easily integrate custom ColdFusion coding. The ASP/hosting solutionoffers a more costefficient content management solution for smaller hostedclients. The multi-level approval process allows site administrators toset-up either a simple or more stringent workflow, ranging from ‘publishnow’ to a more formalized process with several levels of approval requiredbefore the content is published, ensuring that consistent and high qualitycontent is maintained throughout the site.
The American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) has benefited fromCommonSpot Content Server 2.5’s powerful features. According to DavidGammel, ASHA Web Site Director, “The templating and distributed publishingfeatures at the core of CommonSpot have enabled us to push contentmaintenance out to the owners of that content, while still maintaining ourdesign and style standards. These features have allowed our Web team staffto put more focus on developing new projects rather than simply treadingwater by updating existing content for the entire organization.”
