September 5, 2001 – Cape Clear(tm) Software, a provider of Web Services technology, is today announcing the commercial release of its CapeStudio(tm) Web Services development product. CapeStudio is a Rapid Application Development (RAD) tool that enables software developers to build and deploy Web Services and to integrate software systems. The released product incorporates feedback from over one thousand beta testers and adds new functionality, including support for Microsoft(r) BizTalk(r) schemas, a UDDI browser, improved XML mapping, and support for Enterprise JavaBeans(tm) (EJB(tm)) generation from WSDL.

CapeStudio reduces the complexity involved in creating Web Services and mapping XML schemas by automating tasks and by providing intuitive graphical tools to aid understanding and productivity. It also provides functionality to automatically generate Java or Visual Basic code from Web Services Description Language (WSDL) files, thus significantly reducing the time and complexity involved in building a Web Service. CapeStudio also provides a completely graphical environment for defining bidirectional transformations between Extensible Markup Language (XML) documents and Simple Object Access
Protocol (SOAP) messages.

“The potential of Web Services as the platform for application and data integration has been widely accepted by vendors and users alike. But while there is a lot of hype, there are no development tools available that address the specific issues around creating and integrating Web Services,” according to John Maughan, CapeStudio Business Manager at Cape Clear Software. “The value proposition for CapeStudio is simple: it reduces the learning curve and time needed to build Web Services, it shortens project
lead times, and enables rapid prototyping. If anyone is looking for a means of quickly and easily building Web Services, this is it.”

CapeStudio is a standalone Web Services development environment that works with any Web Services platform that conforms to the industry standards: XML, SOAP, WSDL, and Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI). CapeStudio, together with Cape Clear’s CapeConnect Web Services Platform,
provide a compelling end-to-end design-to-deployment solution for Web Services.

Features of CapeStudio:

Graphical XSLT Authoring

CapeStudio provides an intuitive graphical environment for translating between diverse XML dialects so that data may be exchanged easily between systems. CapeStudio supports the mapping of XML using Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations (XSLT). Simple mappings can be generated using drag and drop. Complex mappings are facilitated using specialized editors which allow XML Path Language (XPath) manipulation, expression building, translation using lookups, and conditional transforms to be created. Users can view, run, and debug the generated XSLT as they build the transform. The tool supports popular standards such as RosettaNet(tm), Commerce XML (cXML), XML Common Business Library(tm) (xCBL(tm)), and many more.

Web Service Client Generation

CapeStudio automatically creates Web Service clients from WSDL. This makes it easy for developers to include functionality provided by the Web Service into their applications without learning the intricacies of SOAP and WSDL or wasting time manually coding.

EJB Generation from WSDL

If pre-existing business logic is not available for the Web Service, the true Web Service developer will start by defining WSDL for the service. CapeStudio can then use this WSDL and automatically generate stateless session beans with corresponding Java classes and deployment descriptors for the service. This is a considerable productivity gain for Web Services developers and also yields consistency and a reduction in errors caused by manual coding.

XML-to-SOAP mappings

CapeStudio supports XML-to-XML, XML-to-SOAP, SOAP-to-SOAP and SOAP-to-XML mappings. This enables developers to easily transform XML documents into Web Service invocations and significantly reduces the workload involved in application integration.

Open, Standards-Based Toolset

CapeStudio adheres to industry standards such as XML, WSDL, UDDI, SOAP, and XSLT.

UDDI Browser

CapeStudio includes a UDDI browser that allows users to browse UDDI repositories for Web Services both over the Internet and inside the firewall. Users can then automatically generate clients that can access the service

Pricing and Availability

CapeStudio is available immediately from http://www.capeclear.com/capestudio. CapeStudio costs $445 per user. An online demonstration of CapeStudio is available at http://www.capeclear.com/demo.
