Now that the Java Community Process (JCP) has approved the technical specifications for Java 7 (JSR-336) and Java 8 (JSR-337), will the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) leave the JCP? Apache threatened to do just that if Oracle didn’t loosen the licensing terms of the Technology Compatibility Kit (TCK) for Java 7 and 8. Oracle didn’t blink, and the JCP essentially blessed the license by passing the Java 7 and Java 8 specs as is. Now what?

In his DevX article Java 7 and 8 Get the Green Light Over Apache Opposition, Sean Michael Kerner puts that and many other questions to ASF member Geir Magnusson Jr. Magnusson clarifies what exactly Apache objects to in the Oracle license, which is ostensibly open source, in part saying:

Magnusson goes on to discuss Apache’s future in the JCP and its part in the development of Java.
