While today’s publishing is often on tomorrow’s technologies, it is often yesterday’s technologies actually being used today. September’s Top 10 viewed articles help to confirm this.

While leading-edge topics like Vista, AJAX, and Web 2.0 monopolize headlines across the Web, it is often humbling to step back and look at what is actually being read. It is often with surprise that we find that more people are reading items that are a bit older, but a bit more relevant to what they are doing today.

While today’s publishing is often on tomorrow’s technologies that can be used now, it is often yesterday’s technologies actually being used today.

This isn’t to say that yesterday’s technologies are outdated or bad. Rather, many are solid solutions for what needs to be done or for what needs to be understood. Having said that, seeing database technologies JDBC and ADO.NET in the top 10 is not surprising.

Web development and connectivity continues to be a serious factor as well. Understanding redirecting versus transferring has often been an issue with developers and Karl Moore’s article has been popular since the day it was published. .NET Remoting is also a great topic that continues to have people ask questions even though the word in more current articles is that Windows Communication Foundation may put .NET Remoting out of business.

What continues to impress me is that many of the UML related articles continue to get large numbers of readers. It is good to see that modeling is not being tossed aside with more extreme types of design and development. A little bit of planning and modeling can go a long way.

Without further delay, here is the list of top 10 articles on Developer.com for September of 2006 (The top article was the most viewed):
