At his highly anticipated keynote address at his company's annual F8 developer conference, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged that the social network's recent privacy scandals have made life difficult for developers. "I know it hasn't been easy being a developer these last couple months, and that's probably an understatement," Zuckerberg said. He thanked developers who use the Facebook platform for their support and announced that the company is again opening app reviews so that developers can submit new apps. He added that Facebook and developers "have a responsibility to move forward... to keep building services that help us connect in meaningful new ways."

Zuckerberg also made several product and feature announcements. The social network is adding a clear history feature, cracking down on "fake news," adding a "Watch Party" capability, debuting a new dating service, bringing video chat to Instagram and introducing group video calling to WhatsApp. The company also began shipping the Oculus Go virtual reality headset, and all the developers in attendance received a free Oculus Go.
