Marvell said this week that the company has “built a chip designed for servers that uses the same architecture as chips inside cell phones,” reported GigaOm’s Stacey Higginbotham.
While the 1.6 GHz ARM processors aren’t as fast as a comparable x86 procs, they use a lot less power.
“It brings us closer,” Higginbotham said, “to the idea of the data center as a computer with the real operating system being at the management layer.”
