Who's Using Node.js?

  • By Developer.com Staff

Node.js is an open source JavaScript non-blocking, event-driven framework for building scalable network programs. BostInnovation's Kevin McCarthy spoke with three companies that are using Node.js to find out why.

Yammer's Jim Patterson said that he's using Node.js "because node is evented and non-blocking it is very good at handling concurrent requests, so a proxy built on Node will perform much better than one built on say Ruby."

Proxlet developers said one of things they like about Node.js is that it's JavaScript.

Proxlet is 100 percent JavaScript from database (Mongo) to server (node.js) to client (Chrome extension)," McCarthy reported.
