Three Top Trends in Mobile Development

  • By Developer.com Staff

What were the biggest stories in mobile development in 2012? According to ReadWrite's Dan Rowinski, three mobile trends stood out during the past year. First, HTML5 became increasingly relevant. Although the new Web standard suffered a couple of setbacks during the year (particularly when Facebook abandoned it), numerous vendors rolled out new HTML5 tools, and more developers adopted it for their projects.

Second, location became more important for apps. Google and Apple had a very public squabble over map functionality, and it appears location services will become even more important to smartphone and tablet users in the future.

The third top trend was the explosion of vendors offering developer services. Numerous vendors launched or improved their cloud development platforms and a whole crop of backend-as-a-service providers sprang up.
