Swift Now a Top 10 Programming Language

  • By Developer.com Staff

In the latest update to Tiobe's Index of Programming Language Popularity, Swift broke into the top ten for the first time. A replacement for Objective-C for iOS programming, Swift was first introduced in June 2014. Tiobe attributes its rise in popularity to mobile development firms converting iPhone and iPad apps from Objective-C to Swift.

The rest of the top ten included Java (16.384 percent), C (7.742), C++ (5.184), C# (4.409), Python (3.919), Visual Basic.Net (3.174), PHP (3.009), JavaScript (2.667) and Delphi/Object Pascal (2.544).
