Survey: Devs Prefer Samsung Devices for Testing

  • By Developer.com Staff

Evans Data recently asked 400 Android developers to name their "ideal device" for testing mobile apps. Samsung was the clear favorite, with more than half of those polled naming a Samsung device; notably, Samsung devices are also the most popular with consumers. HTC devices came in second with about 30 percent of the votes, followed by Sony, Motorola and LG, in that order.

The Evans Data report also noted that fragmentation continues to plague Android development. "Android development at the OS level has forked, as seen in the highly visible Amazon Kindle Fire derivative of Android," the report's authors wrote. "Developers must test their applications to work on numerous implementations of Android that vary by manufacturer, or even within a single manufacturer's collection of offerings. Android fragmentation is a reality that developers will have to face if they decide to work on Android."
