Survey: Android Is Most Popular Mobile Development Platform

According to Inmobi’s State of Mobile App Developers 2016 report, 86 percent of those surveyed create apps for Android, making it the most popular mobile development platform. Second place went to iOS with 57 percent of developers, followed by Windows with 21 percent.

Other key takeaways from the report include the following:

  • 65 percent of developers use Java, making it the most popular programming language, followed by HTML 5 (45 percent) and JavaScript (44 percent).
  • 75 percent of developers have been working in mobile development for less than three years.
  • 55 percent of developers earn less than $1,000 per month.
  • On average, mobile apps bring in less than $6,000 per month.
