Last weekend, RIM held a “Port-a-thon,” an event designed to encourage Android developers to port their apps to BlackBerry 10. The response was overwhelming. Developers submitted 19,000 more apps for BlackBerry World—and that was on top of the 15,000 apps already added during a previous port-a-thon.

As a result of the strong response, RIM has decided to extend another of its popular developer programs. Developers now have until February 18 to submit their apps if they want to be part of the $10,000 incentive program. Under the terms of the program, any qualified app that earns at least $1,000 during the first year will actually receive $10,000, with RIM making up the difference, if any.

According to RIM, “the volume of apps being submitted for review and entry into the program has been remarkable.”
