At Europe’s largest hacker conference, the Chaos Communications Congress, Fatuma Musa Afrah, a migrant from Africa, called on attendees to use their skills to help refugees. “A lot of hackers and IT experts don’t know much about our kinds of problems, so it’s my opportunity to educate them about who we are and what problems we go through,” she said.

During her keynote address, Musa Afrah said that simple mobile apps could help make the transition to a new country easier for newcomers.

Describing the conference attendees, she said, “I’ve never before seen people who have more friendship with computers than with human beings. They are very nice, intelligent, open-minded, but most of them are so busy with the internet.”
