Oracle Releases Java SE 9 and Java EE 8

  • By Developer.com Staff

After multiple delays, Oracle has announced that Java SE 9 and Java EE 8 are now generally available for production use. Java SE 9 includes more than 150 new features, the most important of which is its new modularity, enabled by the Java Platform Module System (JPMS), also known as Project Jigsaw.

"This version of Java SE will provide millions of developers [with] the updated tools they need to continue building next-generation applications with ease, performance and agility," said George Saab, vice president of development at Oracle.

Java EE 8 includes new features like HTTP/2 support in Servlet 4.0, a new JSON binding API, JAX-RS improvements and security enhancement. This is the last update for Java EE that Oracle will handle; ownership is transferring to the Eclipse Foundation.
