OpenOffice Developers Consider Shuttering the Project

OpenOffice was once one of the most popular open source projects, but now its core developers say that they are considering shutting down the project. The office productivity suite now has only about six core developers working on the project, reportedly because many of the other developer have moved to another open source office productivity suite called LibreOffice. Dennis E. Hamilton, one of those core OpenOffice developers, also says that the people working on the project are "aging" and if they can't recruit some young talent to work on the project, shutting it down is a real possibility.

Currently, the Apache Foundation manages OpenOffice, which was formerly owned by Sun Microsystems and then Oracle. Some developers also complain that Apache has been too restrictive with the project.
