Facebook’s Oculus Rift virtual reality headset is now available for pre-order. The device costs $599 and will begin deliveries in March. However, in order to use it, you will need a fairly fast computer. Oculus is bundling a PC and a headset together for $1,500, and the bundle will go on sale in February.
The company has come under some criticism for the price of the device, but CEO Brendan Iribe defended it, saying, “It’s a premium experience at a premium price. It’s not that much more than iPads and basically pretty close to a laptop.”
Several other companies are also working on virtual reality devices.
