During Apple’s quarterly earnings call, CEO Tim Cook revealed a statistic that has big implications for the mobile development industry. “We now have an almost 800 million iTunes accounts, most of these with credit cards,” Cook said. “This is a staggering number.”
That represents significant growth since last quarter, when the company said it had 575 million iTunes accounts.
Overall, it was a very good quarter for Apple, which reported sales of 43.7 million iPhones, a 17 percent year-over-year increase. Sales of Apple products were particularly strong in China, where revenues increased 13 percent.
