Mozilla has announced that it will cease development of Firefox OS for smartphones and will no longer sell the operating system to mobile carriers. Instead, it plans to turn Firefox OS into an Internet of Things (IoT) platform. “The current Firefox OS team will stay intact and continue to work on the new experiments across connected devices,” Mozilla senior vice president of connected devices Ari Jaaksi said.
However, Mozilla isn’t giving up on mobile altogether. Today, the company released Focus, a new content blocker for iOS. The app aims to protect users’ privacy and blocks many ads as a side effect.
