Many website owners have long been part of Amazon's Affiliate Program, which allows them to earn commissions by advertising and linking to products on Amazon.com. Now, the e-commerce behemoth is opening the program up to the mobile development industry as well. And it's launching a Mobile Associates API that makes it easy for developers to take part. The tool also takes advantage of Amazon's 1-Click buying, which makes it very easy for end users to purchase.

"Imagine a developer of a nutrition and fitness app can now offer their customers the ability to purchase vitamins, supplements and fitness gear within the app, directly from Amazon.com," explained Amazon VP Mike George. "It offers the customer a more relevant experience and provides the developer with a new source of revenue."
