RedMonk has released its programming language rankings for early 2016, and as in the past, JavaScript and Java ranked first and second, respectively. “JavaScript’s continued strength is impressive, as is Java’s steady, robust performance,” said Redmonk analyst Stephen O’Grady. “The longtime presence of these two languages in particular atop our rankings is no coincidence; instead it reflects an increasing willingness to employ a best-tool-for-the-job approach, even within the most conservative of enterprises.”

The rest of the top ten were PHP (3), Python (4), C# (5), C++ (5), Ruby (5), CSS (8), C (9) and Objective-C (10).

RedMonk releases its rankings twice per year.
