RebelLabs has published its annual Developer Productivity Report, which this year surveyed more than 2,000 Java developers. One of the more interesting findings in the report is that IntelliJ IDEA seems to have become the IDE of choice, used by 54 percent of respondents. By comparison, 33 percent said they use Eclipse, and 13 favor NetBeans.

Other key findings included the following:

  • 72 percent of respondents primarily write in Java 8.
  • Kotlin was the most well-liked JVM language, earning a 9.1 on a 10-point scale.
  • 47 percent of respondents use Spring.
  • When asked about the biggest bottleneck to development productivity, "project architecture" was the most common response.
