Java, C++ Decline in Popularity

On the latest version of the Tiobe Index, two of the most commonly used programming languages—Java and C++—saw declines in their popularity ratings. "Java and C++ are at an all-time low in the Tiobe index since its start in the year 2001," said Tiobe. However, the company added, "This doesn't necessarily mean that Java and C++ are on their way out. There is still a huge demand for these programming languages." The company suggested that domain-specific languages may be gaining popularity at the expense of general languages like Java and C++.

This month's top five languages on the index were C (16.72), Java (14.14), Objective-C (9.94), C++ (4.67) and C# (4.35). Swift, Apple's new programming language climbed from 23rd to 18th on the list.
