A session at Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) detailed new changes to HomeKit that will be included in iOS 9. HomeKit is Apple’s Internet of Things (IoT) development platform that allows end users to control devices in their homes.

After the next iOS update, HomeKit will support several more types of devices, including security systems and mechanical blinds. In addition, the updated version of HomeKit will provide mobile development firms with pre-defined “scene” templates that can help control what happens in the home when a user wakes up, leaves home, returns home and goes to bed. It also now supports custom triggers for events, as well as supporting Apple Watch.
