At the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, Intel made a number of announcements related to its development tools. First, it unveiled two new DirectX extensions for its 4th generation Intel processors: PixelSync, which makes it easier to create partially transparent pixels for smoke, hair and similar images, and InstantAccess, which makes it possible to read and write memory from the CPU or Intel HD graphics components.

In addition, Intel revealed an updated version of the Intel Graphics Performance Analyzers (GPA). And it released the production version of its Perceptual Computing SDK.

Intel also used the event to announce its annual Level Up development contest, which offers $800,000 in prizes.
