Intel is laying off 140 employees who worked on its discontinued Internet of Things (IoT) product lines. The company had previously announced that it would end production of its Joule, Edison and Galileo compute modules and boards, and the layoffs had been anticipated.Approximately 100 of the affected workers are at the chip maker’s Santa Clara facility; the rest work at Intel’s office in Leixlip, Ireland.

Intel’s IoT products generated $721 million in revenue during the first quarter of this year. That was an 11 percent year-over-year increase, but it comprises less than 5 percent of the company’s total revenue.
