IBM Cloud Computing Service Helps Detect AI Bias

IBM was one of the earliest champions of artificial intelligence (AI) with its Watson platform; now it is one of the first to offer a service designed to mitigate AI shortcomings. The company is launching a cloud computing tool that detects bias in AI solutions and provides explanations for automated decisions. It supports a wide variety of AI platforms including Watson, TensorFlow, SparkML, AWS SageMaker and AzureML.

The software as a service (SaaS) offering can help organizations comply with GDPR and other privacy regulations and alleviate concerns about a lack of transparency with AI. “IBM led the industry in establishing trust and transparency principles for the development of new AI technologies. It’s time to translate principles into practice,” stated David Kenny, SVP of cognitive solutions at IBM. “We are giving new transparency and control to the businesses who use AI and face the most potential risk from any flawed decision making.”
