Google’s is moving ahead with its “Ara” project aimed at creating modular smartphones. The company has scheduled a series of three developer conferences related to the project. The first will take place April 14 and 15 and will focus on the release of the Ara Module Developers’ Kit.

If Ara were to become a reality, consumers would have the opportunity to build their own customized smartphones out of components they select or to swap out phone components as they see fit.

Tickets for the developer conference cost $100. Google also plans to stream online video from the conference for free.
