Google has officially released the final version of Dart 2, a major revamp of the programming language. The update focuses on client-side Web development and mobile development, and developers are discussing using it as an alternative to Java, Kotlin, Objective-C and Swift.

According to Kevin Moore, a Google product manager working on Dart, “Over the last year, Dart has seen dramatic growth. Our own analytics suggest a ten-fold growth in external usage. In the last quarter, Dart was one of the fastest growing languages on GitHub, as measured by pull requests.”

Along with the release, Google also unveiled an update for the Dart Web Platform. Many Dart Web developers use the Flutter framework, which is tightly coupled with the language.
