Google used to send payments to Google Play developers two days after a month ended. Now it has informed Android developers that it will not send out payments until the fifteenth of the following month. As might be expected, numerous developers have taken to online forums to complain about the delay to their checks.

What’s more interesting, however, is the reason Google gives for the change. In an email to developers, it wrote, “We are committed to providing you with a consistent and reliable payout experience while we introduce new forms of payment to better serve your users and create more revenue opportunities for you. In order to do so, we are shifting our payout date to 15 days after the month’s end.”

Since Google Play already accepts a wide variety of payment options, many people have been speculating about what the “new forms of payment” might be.
