In an attempt to find malicious apps before they appear in Google Play, Google has instituted a new app review process for all Android apps submitted to the store. Apparently, the app reviews have been occurring for some time, but the company is only now revealing the change.

Googles promises that mobile development firms will still be able to release apps quickly. “We value the rapid innovation and iteration that is unique to Google Play, and will continue to help developers get their products to market within a matter of hours after submission, rather than days or weeks,” blogged Eunice Kim, product manager for Google Play. Kim added, “There has been no noticeable change for developers during the rollout.”

The company is also instituting a new content rating system that will allow mobile development firms to rate their games and other apps based on Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) standards.
