Google Coder Turns Raspberry Pi into a Web Platform

  • By Developer.com Staff

If you've got $35 and 10 minutes, you have everything you need to set up your own Web platform—that's the promise of a new Google Creative Lab project called Coder. Coder runs on top of Raspberry Pi, the barebones computer that retails for just $35. Coder is an open source tool that sets up in ten minutes and gives Web developers everything they need to get up and running with a website, including a code editor.

Coder is designed to teach kids "the basics of building for the web," say the project owners. They have plans to make the project more full featured, but pushed out a first release now because they believe "the sooner this gets into the open source and maker communities, the more we’ll learn about how it might be used."
