Google App Engine Improves Its Python Support

  • By Developer.com Staff

Google's cloud computing service has added support for more versions of the Python programming language. It has released a beta version of an open source Python runtime for its Google App Engine Flexible Environment. “Developers running Python on Google App Engine have long asked for support for Python 3 and third-party Python packages,” blogged Amir Ruzrokh, product manager for Google. “You can now develop applications in the Python version you prefer and create performant mobile and web back-ends using the frameworks and libraries of your choice.”

More specifically, the Google App Engine Flexible Environment now supports Python 3.4 and 2.7, as well as related tools like Flask, Django, Pyramid, Falcon and Tornado. Google also offers App Engine Flexible Environment runtimes for Java, Servlet, Jetty and Node.js.
