A new report from Gartner predicts that global shipments of PCs, tablets, ultramobiles and mobile phones will fall 3 percent in 2016. Device shipments dropped .75 percent in 2015, and the company forecasts that shipments will be flat for the next five years.

While the overall trend is downward, a few parts of the device market are likely to see growth, namely premium ultramobile devices (such as the MacBook Air) and entry-level mobile phones. The Chinese market for Android smartphones should be particularly strong, while Gartner expects to see weaker sales for the iPhone. Overall, the smartphone market should increase 4.5 percent.
